Hair as an indicator of stress level
Stress- related hair loss is easy to distinguish when you suffer from different types of alopecia such as androgenetic alopecia.
Stress affects the entire surface of the scalp, being more evident in the lateral and upper areas, while alopecia loses hair density, especially on the crown of the head.
Another symptom is increased greasiness of the hair, dandruff and flaking of the scalp, which increase the chances of suffering from seborrheic dermatitis.
Prolonged stress can have negative effects on the body, such as premature aging, early mortality, chronic diseases, depression and an overall poor quality of life. It can also affect your hair, releasing hormones that change its pigmentation, causing it to turn gray or white or cause hair loss.
A study conducted by the University of Iceland and Mexico's National Institute of Public Health found that stress levels are also reflected in the amount of the hormone cortisol stored in the hair.
Until now this hormone could only be detected in blood, urine and saliva.
The study analyzed hair samples from 881 women from Mexico and 398 from Iceland. They analyzed the 3cm section closest to the scalp, since hair grows 1cm per month, so that part analyzed represents the last three months.
They were also asked to take a 10-question survey about the degree of stress they felt on a 5-point scale. The results showed that women who were in the fifth highest level of stress levels had 24.3% higher cortisol levels than those who were in the fifth lowest level. This suggests that chronic stress could be diagnosed by measuring cortisol in the hair.

- Massage the scalp : Stimulates the scalp by increasing blood flow and stimulates hair follicles, making hair grow longer and better.
- Balanced diet and exercise: During times of stress, we are tempted to eat high-calorie foods, high in sugar and saturated fat. It is important to follow a balanced and healthy diet, consuming foods rich in vitamins and minerals and doing daily physical exercise to combat stress, combined with our SATIENT gummies to avoid eating due to anxiety.
- Platelet-rich plasma (PRP): treatment that stimulates hair growth, improving its quality.
